Hello Mrs. Small Business Owner

After much back-and-forth, much hand-wringing, much uncertainty, Jon has found an excellent location for his future tattoo shop, settled on lease terms with the landlord, got a certificate of zoning permission from the city and....he's opening his own shop! Soon!

Fortune Cookie Tattoo will soon be a reality.

The shop, at 8 E. Ellsworth in Denver (for locals), is undergoing some construction but the landlord is confident it can be done in two weeks. So I'm guessing a month. Then Jon can get in and start his own construction, decorating and organizing and then...bam! He'll have his own shop.

It is really quite unbelievable that all the different pieces came together so nicely. This is the first location he ever saw, the one he wanted most, the one we thought wasn't zoned properly, then the one the landlord waffled on. It is the right size (a cozy 800 sq. ft.), the right price (he even got a pretty good deal, given the economy), and the right place (lots of foot and car traffic).

Next steps include signing the lease (the landlord is writing it up right now), finishing building construction, getting plans approved by the Health Department, starting tattoo-specific construction, getting inspected, getting approved, getting a business license, and opening the doors! Oh, yeah, and all the little things in between. A lot can still go wrong, so I have my fingers crossed, but I am really excited for Jon and for our family. I think this will be a good move.
