Nine-month stats

And Evelyn is...still big! Hooray!

The 9-month check-up went well. Everything is right on target, she is developing perfectly, and she is doing great. Her weight has stayed steady at the 85th percentile (21.2 pounds now!) but her height has rocketed to the 93rd percentile (29 inches). So yes, I'm not crazy, I really do have a tall baby. (The doctor asked, "so who has the 6'4" uncle?" "Um, I do. Well, everyone in my family is really tall." "I guess she's taking after your genes then!") Her head went from the 80th percentile to the 92nd percentile, but that doesn't really mean much. Except that her head is full of delicious super smart brains.

Here is Evelyn today....

And here she is nine months ago...

That is truly miraculous. She has been outside the womb as long as she was inside. It is amazing to think that 18 months ago she was like two little cells just getting started. Then 9 months ago she was this tiny, helpless, itty bitty baby who was not even six pounds, who had skinny legs and we could see her ribs. Now she is thriving, large, talkative, mobile, inquisitive, funny, opinionated, and delightful. I really couldn't have imagined how much things would have changed in 18 months, in 9 months, but they have. People always say, "Oh your life will change SO much; nothing will be the same." I don't believe that is true. My husband is the same, my job is the same, my personality is the same, my likes and dislikes are (mostly) the same. But my capacity as a human being--to love, to empathize, to grow--has changed. That is what people should say. Not that your LIFE will change so much, but that your soul will grow so much that it won't fit the same way into your old life.

But in a good way.

I love what you said at the end. So true!

Well, my LIFE changed too, but the more important changes are the ones you're talking about.
